No Yellow, except that which we paint

Greetings and Salutations from the Amber Valley, and finally a breakthrough.

After spending a couple of days stripping dodgy undercoat and re-assembling busted figures, I'm almost back where I started.

In a curious way this has helped me to better finalise my plans going forward,  in terms of what  squads I'm going to paint, but probably more importantly what recipe I'm going to use.

I'll post exactly what I'm doing later, but until then here is a  couple of WIP test Marines

The great undercoat disaster part II

Greetings from the Amber Valley,

well I tried, but unfortunately they've all turned out worse than before, so I'm gonna have to stick 'em in the Dettol to strip them back to the plastic.

This is a serious spanner in the works so I'm not sure how to move forwards just yet.

Might have to regroup and start something else while these fellas are marinading in the goop.

Ah well could've been worse I guess...

The great undercoat disaster part 1

Somber news from the Amber Valley.

I'm 27 models into assembly, and after seeing Steve's speedy painting of his Alpha Legion I thought I'd better show willing and put brush to plastic.

Long story short, and due to the combo of crappy weather and only having the dregs of a can of white spray available I am  left with a case of the dreaded Orange Peel primer syndrome.

Early indications are that they'll all be saveable, but it'll take time to sort it out.

I've brush primered one already and he looks great, but I might try to overspray the other 26 to save time, or maybe I'll just tough it out to make sure it works.

Typical that in 30 some years of painting that this is only the second time this has ever happened to me

Still never mind,  I've also worked out  and tested some yellow recipes but still not decided how to proceed.

More soon stay happy people

A slow news week

Greetings from the Amber Valley, and apologies for the lack of content this week.

Assembly continues, we are up to 20 Marines, with 20 more on the way, it's slow but steady progress, just got to get them painted.

As a side note, it's worth saying the the BaC MKIV Marines are lovely, and are much nicer to work on than the old MKVII tac Marines sprue, though a few more arm variants would be cool.
The sprues themselves are crammed with stuff, including Special, Combi, and Heavy weapon choices all included, whilst the Sgt gets a healthy selection of options to make him stand out.

40K 7th Edition rules have arrived here, along with some Army Painter Bone spray, and Lamenters Yellow glaze, so I now have no excuses not to start a test model and finally put my money where my mouth is.

I'm slowly working out the bare bones of an Army list, with the following guidelines.

Keeping as close as I can to the Imperial Fists fluff- lots of Bolters and Siege crafty stuff.

Painting mainly 'new stuff' so I don't get bored (hence lots of 30k stuff)

Keeping things relatively simple so I don't have to swallow tons of special rules in one hit

So far so good, but it's definitely a WIP and I think it'll need lots of fine tuning to make it work

Anyhow, more soon, and I might even get some photos done if your lucky.

Distractions and delays

Here in the Amber Valley it's been a busy week so far with very little 'hobby time' so I've been getting a little frustrated as a result.

However,  purchase wise a set of 40k 7th edition rules are on their way to me, along with 10 more Mk IV Marines to bump my total to 40 Yellow dudes.

My Adeptus Mechanicus Battle Maniple arrived,  courtesy of Mr D and his handlers, and is full of all manner of Techno-Space-Gubbins, but as these will be my 'second' army they have to sit at the bottom of the sprue pile for a bit whilst the Marines get fettled.

On a visit to buy paint I spotted the O/P Heresy books in the FW store so will be nipping in to get the first volume tomorrow.

Assembly of the BaC Marines continues, and they are truly lovely models, which go together smoothly, and look the Dog's Danglies.

I've locked down which units I want for my 2000 point army, i just have to buy the beggars now !

On a side note, I still need to base my Stormcast Eternals and paint the last Gryph-Hound, busy, busy eh ?
